Apostille

The 5 October 1961 Apostille Convention, established by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), streamlines the recognition of public documents in foreign countries. This Convention aims to eliminate the conventional need for time-consuming and expensive legalization procedures. Instead, it introduces a more efficient process by issuing a single Apostille certificate through a Competent Authority in the document’s place of origin. The Electronic Apostille Program (e-APP), initiated in 2006, further enhances this process by facilitating the electronic issuance and verification of Apostilles globally.

The Convention has over 120 Contracting Parties and has become one of the most widely applied multilateral treaties in the area of legal cooperation, with several million Apostilles issued each year.
